“Finding the Groove”

Principal’s Message to Parents & Guardians

March 5th, 2026

LCES Families,

Since my last notice on this subject, we have continued to experience a set of illnesses amongst our student population. We want to share the steps our school is taking to ensure a clean, healthy environment where every student can thrive.

Deep Cleaning and Keeping Ourselves Healthy

Finding the Groove means staying in sync with healthy habits that support continual success for all. To maintain a safe and productive learning groove, we are implementing enhanced cleaning and wellness protocols across our campus:

  • Our maintenance and custodial teams have re-activated our fogging machine to help disinfect the campus. This process will focus on common areas, restrooms, and classrooms, helping us reset the beat of cleanliness schoolwide.

  • Our custodial team is doubling down on disinfecting high touch, hard surfaces, especially doors and bathrooms, to keep our daily rhythm free from unnecessary interruptions due to illness.

  • Every classroom is stocked with disinfectant wipes, hand sanitizer, and tissues. These tools help students and staff take ownership of healthy habits, empowering continual success through shared responsibility.

  • Students are practicing hand washing and hand disinfection whenever they re-enter classrooms, helping them return to learning ready to stay in the groove.

  • When classes transition to specials or lunch, hard surfaces are wiped down to ensure each learning space is refreshed and ready for the next group.

  • Classroom activities are being adjusted to avoid overly close physical proximity. Students are not isolated, but we are giving everyone the space they need to move comfortably and safely together.

  • Teachers are reinforcing proper coughing and sneezing etiquette, helping students learn lifelong habits that support personal and community wellness.

  • Shared and community classroom items are temporarily removed. Students are using individual supplies to reduce the spread of germs while maintaining a smooth learning flow.

  • Classroom doors remain open during instruction, and when weather permits, windows may be slightly opened to increase airflow and keep our environment feeling fresh and energized.

By working together and staying mindful of these practices, we can continue Finding the Groove as a school community while Empowering Continual Success for every child. Thank you for your continued support and partnership in keeping our students healthy, safe, and ready to learn.

I am also sharing the latest information from our local health advisory organization, Loup County Basin Children should not be allowed to return to school until the student no longer shows any signs of acute illness, or until they have been fever-free for 24 hours without the use of fever-lowering medication (acetaminophen or ibuprofen). For viral GI illness, such as Norovirus, have children/students stay home from school for at least 48 hours after vomiting/diarrhea has ended.

Thank you for your continued involvement and support. Together, we are making Loup City Elementary a place where students thrive, grow, and succeed every day! If you ever need to contact me, don’t hesitate to do so at paul.barker@lcpublic.org or through the main office at 308-745-0603
